Should You Cleanse Your Face With Tap Water or Lotion?

We all seem to be so busy these days, a lot more than a decade or so ago. And now we have to fit in a daily skin care routine to ensure that we enjoy a smooth, healthy complexion.

But facial skincare doesn't have to be a chore which you don't enjoy doing. No, you need to pick the products you like, which suit your skin type and your lifestyle. There isn't a need for complex rituals that make facial skincare laborious and time-consuming.

What us women need (or men!) is an efficient, and quick system that protects and enhances the skin adequately. So going with this we'll take a look at cleansing our face as this is obviously an everyday must!

Water or Lotion?

There seems to be a continuous debate whether you should wash your face with a cleansing lotion or tap water. Unless your skin is very sensitive and it reacts to water as if it were a harsh chemical, there really is no reason not to wash your face with tap water.

However, I am one of those persons with very sensitive skin and I never use tap water on my face, I always use a cleansing lotion for very sensitive skin and a cotton wool pad. Apparently Claudia Schiffer and Liz Taylor claim never to let tap water touch their facial skin either.

So if your skin feels slightly irritant and particularly dry and tight after you have used tap water, then I would avoid it from thereon. Do what I do and use a sensitive skin cleansing lotion and cotton wool pad.

Dermatologists are actually in favour of washing in tap water as they say that water is a natural exfoliant which gently sweeps away the dead skin cells lying on the top layer of the skin. Always wash with warm water and never hot as hot water encourages dilated capillaries which is something you don't want showing on your face.

One last thing, don't use harsh, highly fragranced soaps to wash your face. There's no need to nowadays as there are plenty of lovely mild, gentle cleansing bars and foam washes specifically to respect your facial skins acidity depending that you have chosen the right one for your skin type.

This is just the first step of facial skin care, so don't forget to put your moisturizer on after your cleanse and do this twice a day.
